“Making Waves” - During the fourth quarter, the 1/2 class embarked on a study of water, and how artists incorporate water designs into their work. They began by creating a variety of lines to represent different types of waves. For example, students drew lines for tidal waves, rapids, ripples, and slow, rolling waves. They interpreted a wave’s motion through the repetition of shapes and patterns. Next, the artists made acrylic paintings to demonstrate their abilities. After creating a background with different shades of blues and gold, each student added their own wave line using a paint marker. They then built upon these lines by creating patterns between the waves. These two canvases represent their growing knowledge of how the elements of art can be used to represent complex ideas.
